JUVÉDERM® gives us a collection of hyaluronic acid fillers with different characteristics, allowing treatment to be selected and placed according to your anatomy and what you actually want to improve.
What Is JUVÉDERM®?
JUVÉDERM® is a family of injectable dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid (HA). Unlike BOTOX® and Dysport®, which temporarily reduce targeted muscle activity, JUVÉDERM adds volume and structural support.
But choosing filler is about more than deciding where to put a syringe.
When you come in concerned about a particular line, hollow or feature, our aesthetic providers evaluate the surrounding anatomy as well. Sometimes the area you notice is where treatment belongs. Other times, restoring support somewhere else can create a more balanced result.
The goal is not more filler. It is the right product, in the right place, for the right reason.

Different JUVÉDERM formulations have different properties. Some provide greater structural support, while others are designed for areas where softer, more flexible correction is appropriate.
That allows our aesthetic providers to choose a filler based on the tissue, anatomy and treatment goal rather than using the same product everywhere.

You do not need to know which JUVÉDERM product you need before your appointment. Product selection is part of the treatment plan.
Treating the Face, Not Just the Line
A patient may come in pointing to one specific concern, but that does not necessarily mean that is the only area we evaluate. Facial aging involves changes in volume, support, skin and proportion. Treating an isolated line without understanding why it has developed can sometimes miss the larger picture.
Our aesthetic providers look at how your cheeks, under-eyes, lips, lower face and surrounding structures relate to one another before recommending filler.
Sometimes that means treating exactly where you expected. Sometimes it means suggesting a different approach. And sometimes it means telling you that filler is not what you need.
What Can JUVÉDERM® Treat?
Depending on the specific product and your anatomy, JUVÉDERM® may be used to restore volume, soften facial lines or refine facial contours.
Treatment areas may include:

Treatment is individualized because the same concern can have different causes in different faces.
JUVÉDERM® for the Lips
Lip filler is not simply about creating larger lips.
Our aesthetic providers consider the existing shape of your lips, their relationship to one another and how they fit the proportions of your face. Depending on what you want to change, treatment may focus on volume, shape, definition, symmetry or a combination of these.
For some patients, that means a very subtle change. The goal is for your lips to still look like your lips, just with the refinement you wanted.
JUVÉDERM® Under the Eyes
Looking tired does not always mean you need more sleep, and an under-eye hollow is not automatically a reason to inject filler.
Our aesthetic providers evaluate the relationship between the lower eyelid, tear trough and cheek to understand what is creating the shadow or hollow you see.
For appropriately selected patients, JUVÉDERM can be used to restore volume and create a smoother transition between the lower eyelid and cheek. For others, filler may not be the best solution.
That distinction is especially important around the eyes, where anatomy and careful patient selection matter.

What to Expect During JUVÉDERM® Treatment
Your appointment begins with a conversation about what is bothering you.
Our aesthetic providers evaluate your face at rest and in relation to your overall proportions, discuss what you would like to change and develop the treatment plan with you.
Once the areas and product have been selected, JUVÉDERM is carefully placed to create the desired support, contour or volume.
The number of syringes is not predetermined. Treatment is based on what your anatomy and goals require.
After Your Treatment
Some swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising is normal after dermal filler injections. The amount varies depending on the treatment area and individual patient.
Your appearance immediately after injection is also not necessarily your final result. Swelling needs time to resolve before the treated area can be properly evaluated.
Our aesthetic provider will give you specific aftercare instructions based on your treatment.
How Long Does JUVÉDERM® Last?
There is no single longevity number for JUVÉDERM because it is a collection of fillers rather than one product. How long your results last depends on the particular formulation, where it is placed, the amount used and your individual response.
Instead of building your treatment around a predetermined maintenance schedule, our aesthetic providers can reassess your results over time and determine when additional treatment actually makes sense.
Who Is a Candidate for JUVÉDERM®?
JUVÉDERM may be appropriate for adults who want to restore volume, refine facial contours or enhance a feature without surgery.
Good treatment begins with realistic goals and an understanding that more filler does not necessarily create a better result.
Our aesthetic providers will evaluate your anatomy, medical history, previous injectable treatments and goals before recommending a specific JUVÉDERM product or treatment plan.
JUVÉDERM® or Regenerative Treatment?
Traditional filler is no longer the only injectable option for addressing volume and skin quality.
JUVÉDERM can provide predictable volume and structural support when that is what the face needs. Regenerative treatments such as PRF EZ Gel take a different approach, using components derived from your own blood to provide subtle support while incorporating regenerative biology.
These treatments do not have to compete with one another. The question is what are we trying to accomplish?
For some patients, JUVÉDERM provides the structure they need. For others, a regenerative treatment may better fit the goal. And in some cases, different approaches can be used strategically as part of the same overall plan.

How soon will I see results from Juvederm®?
Results are visible immediately after treatment, with full settling in about 1 to 2 weeks.
Will I look overfilled or unnatural?
Not when administered by an experienced injector. We specialize in subtle, balanced enhancements.
Can Juvederm® be combined with other treatments?
Yes. It’s often paired with Botox® or other fillers for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
How often do I need touch-ups?
Maintenance is typically needed every 6 to 18 months, depending on the product and area treated.
Is there any downtime after Juvederm®?
Most patients resume normal activities right away. Mild swelling or bruising may occur and typically resolves within a few days.
How long do results typically last?
For many Juvederm® products, results last 6 to 18 months depending on product design, where it’s injected, and individual factors (skin type, age, how much movement the area has).
Juvederm Voluma® XC in the mid-face (cheek area) can last up to 2 years with optimal correction.
What areas can Juvederm® treat?
It can be used in many facial areas, including:
- Nasolabial folds (“smile lines”)
- Cheek volume loss (midface)
- Lips (volume, shape)
- Tear troughs under the eyes, jawline, temples, and other contour-areas depending on the formulation used.
How satisfied are patients with Juvederm®?
Very satisfied. Some key findings:
- Over 90% of patients in a 2024 study reported between “improved” and “very much improved” after facial filler treatment.
- In a study of Juvederm Ultra Plus for severe nasolabial folds in Chinese subjects, treatment was shown to be safe and effective with high satisfaction.
- In the mid-face, patients using Voluma XC often report a natural look and feel, and satisfaction with lifting/volume after treatment in temples (newer indication).
Are there certain people who should avoid Juvederm® or be extra cautious?
Yes. Some precautionary points:
- Patients with active skin infection in the treatment area, or with known allergies to components of the filler.
- Those with a history of adverse reactions to fillers.
- Be cautious with darker skin tones to avoid pigment changes, especially if there is inflammation.
- The practitioner’s technique matters: knowing anatomy well, using appropriate volumes, and placing filler in proper layers helps reduce risk.
How natural will the results look?
Very natural, when done by experienced providers using the right Juvederm® product for the right area. Many studies show that patients feel their results look natural. The choice of filler (its “stiffness”, how cross-linked it is), the amount, and the injection site influence how “soft” or subtle vs “lifted” the final look is.
How long can Juvéderm results last beyond “six months”?
In clinical trials, Juvéderm Ultra often lasts longer than 9 months. For example, one study reported that 78% of nasolabial folds treated with Juvéderm Ultra Plus still showed meaningful improvement beyond one year.
In MRI studies of HA fillers generally, retention has been seen in some midface cases even 2 to 15 years later—though results vary with product, placement, and patient factors.
Are hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm safe in more sensitive areas like under the eyes?
Yes, but with care. A recent meta-analysis evaluated hyaluronic acid injections in the infraorbital (under-eye) region. It found that adverse events (swelling, bruising, lumps) were relatively uncommon and mostly mild, especially when experienced injectors use safe techniques.
If I don’t like the Juvéderm result, can it be reversed or adjusted?
Yes. Because Juvéderm is a hyaluronic acid filler, your provider can use hyaluronidase (an enzyme) to dissolve or soften excess product. This adjustability is one of HA’s advantages compared to non-reversible fillers. The general safety guidelines for HA fillers mention this capability.
What kinds of side effects do HA fillers like Juvéderm tend to cause, and how common are they?
In a meta-analysis of HA dermal fillers, the most common complications were lumpiness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising. These are usually mild and temporary.
Do different Juvéderm products (like Ultra, Ultra Plus, Voluma, Volbella) behave differently in terms of longevity or safety?
Yes—product formulation and crosslinking affect performance. For example, Juvéderm XC (with lidocaine) has been shown to reduce injection pain while maintaining safety and effectiveness similar to non-lidocaine HA fillers.
Also, a head-to-head study comparing Juvéderm Ultra Plus vs another filler for nasolabial folds observed differences in durability over 12 months, suggesting that physical properties (e.g. how tightly crosslinked) can influence how long the effect lasts.
