Restylane® is a family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers designed for different areas of the face and different treatment goals. Depending on the formulation, Restylane can be used to restore volume, refine facial contours, enhance the lips or soften certain lines and folds.
But our aesthetic providers do not begin by choosing a syringe.
They begin by looking at your face, what is bothering you and what may actually be creating the change you see. Facial balance, movement, volume, skin, previous treatments and the features you want to preserve can all influence the treatment plan.
Sometimes the area you point to is exactly where treatment belongs. Other times, restoring support somewhere else creates a more balanced improvement. The goal is not to fill every line. It is to understand the face first.
Different Restylane formulations have different characteristics. That gives our aesthetic providers options when selecting a filler for the tissue, treatment area and type of correction they are trying to achieve.
You do not need to know which Restylane® product is right for you before your appointment. The formulation is selected based on your anatomy, the tissue being treated and the type of support or correction we want to create.
Restylane® is a family of injectable dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid (HA). The fillers are designed to add support or volume within the tissues, but different Restylane formulations are not identical.
As the graphic illustrates, differences in gel characteristics and particle size allow products within the Restylane family to provide different types of support and to be placed at different tissue depths. A product intended for finer correction does not necessarily behave the same way as one selected for deeper structural support.
That is why our aesthetic providers do not approach filler as simply choosing a brand or deciding how many syringes to use. The product, placement and depth all depend on the anatomy being treated and what we are trying to accomplish.
Patients sometimes arrive already knowing the name of a filler they think they want. Our aesthetic providers take a broader approach. They evaluate facial anatomy and balance, look at how your face moves, discuss previous injectable treatments and ask what you liked or did not like about those results. Most importantly, they want to understand what you see when you look in the mirror and what you actually want to improve.
That conversation helps determine whether Restylane is appropriate, which formulation makes sense and where treatment can make the most meaningful difference.
Because Restylane is a family of fillers rather than a single product, it can address several different facial concerns. Treatment may include the lips, cheeks and midface, chin, nasolabial folds and other areas where additional volume or structural support is appropriate.
But the same concern does not necessarily have the same cause in every patient. A fold around the mouth, for example, may be influenced by changes elsewhere in the face. That is why our aesthetic providers evaluate the surrounding anatomy rather than automatically injecting the area where you see the line.
Lip filler is not simply about making lips larger. Our aesthetic providers look at the existing shape of your lips, their proportions, symmetry, definition and relationship to the rest of your face. They also ask what you have had done before and what you liked or did not like about it.
For one patient, the goal may be additional volume. For another, it may be definition, shape, symmetry or a very subtle refinement.

Your face is then evaluated as a whole, including facial proportions, volume, movement and the relationship between the area bothering you and the structures around it. Only then does the conversation become about Restylane.
Once a treatment plan has been developed, the appropriate Restylane formulation and placement are selected according to your anatomy and goals.
There is no predetermined number of syringes that every patient needs. The amount of filler, where it is placed and whether more than one area should be treated depend on what will create the most balanced result for your face.
Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness or bruising can occur after dermal filler injections. Our aesthetic team will provide aftercare instructions based on your treatment.
Restylane may be appropriate if changes in facial volume, contours, lips or facial folds are bothering you and you are interested in a nonsurgical approach. You do not need to know whether Restylane, JUVÉDERM® or another treatment is the right answer before you come in. That is part of the evaluation.
Sometimes filler is exactly what makes sense. Sometimes another injectable or regenerative treatment better addresses the concern. And sometimes the right recommendation is to leave an area alone.
The objective is not more treatment. It is the right treatment for your face.
Restylane can create visible improvement in volume, contour or definition, but the result should still make sense with the rest of your face.

What is Restylane® made of?

How long do Restylane® results last?
Results typically last 6 to 18 months, depending on the specific Restylane product used, treatment area, and individual factors like metabolism and lifestyle.
Is there any downtime after a Restylane® treatment?
Most patients can resume normal activities right after treatment. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site may occur but usually resolves within a few days.
What areas can be treated with Restylane®?
Restylane® can treat nasolabial folds, marionette lines, lips, cheeks, and under the eyes. Different products in the Restylane line are tailored to specific areas and concerns.
Does the treatment hurt?
Restylane® products contain lidocaine for improved comfort. Topical numbing cream or ice can also be used to further minimize discomfort during the procedure.
Who is a good candidate for Restylane®?
Adults looking to reduce facial wrinkles, enhance lip volume, or restore midface fullness without surgery are generally good candidates. A consultation can determine the best approach for your goals.
Which Restylane product is right for me?
Different gels are designed for specific jobs. Softer gels suit lips and fine lines. Firmer gels support lift in the cheeks, chin, and jawline. Your injector will select the best option after examining your face.
How many syringes will I need?
It depends on your goals and starting anatomy. Many first-time lip treatments use 1 syringe. Smile lines may use 1 to 2. Cheek or chin contour often needs 2 to 4 total. Your plan is customized.
Is Restylane reversible if I do not like it?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase.
Can I combine Restylane with Botox or lasers?
Yes. Many patients pair filler with neuromodulators, skin tightening, or lasers. Your provider will set the order and timing to protect your results.
What should I avoid after treatment?
Avoid strenuous exercise, heat exposure, and alcohol for 24 hours. Do not massage the area unless instructed. Sleep on your back the first night and avoid firm pressure.
