Facial Fat Transfer
The facial fat transfer procedure offers a way to restore lost volume to the face, enhance facial contours, and redefine a person’s profile. This facial plastic-surgery procedure uses fat harvested from the patient’s body as a more natural substitute to dermal fillers.
At Balikian Facial Plastic Surgery, we can provide you with long-lasting and natural looking results from your facial fat transfer. We are dedicated to ensuring the safety and satisfaction of all our patients.
Why Your Face Needs Volume
Facial volume is what give your cheeks their plump and round appearance that adds a youthfulness to your appearance. Volume is a part of what gives your face its attractive contours. It plays an important role in different areas of the face, like under the eyes and around the chin and jawline.
Our face slowly loses volume as we age. Even losing a small amount of volume can noticeably change your appearance. It can result in noticeable folds forming on the face, like around the mid face or forehead. A loss of volume can give the under eyes and temples a sunken appearance. It can rob the cheeks of their plump appearance and cause them to sag, and diminish the overall look of your profile.
The Facial Fat Transfer Procedure
A Facial fat Transfer is a two-part procedure. First, the fat being used for the procedure must be harvested from another area of the body that contains excess fat. The fat is typically taken from the abdomen, or back. Liposuction is performed on the area to harvest the fat.
Once the required amount of fat is harvested it is placed in syringes so that it can be injected into the desired areas of the face. The area of the face where the injections will go are marked and the fat is injected underneath the skin. Extreme precision is used to ensure that the fat spreads evenly and to make sure that too much fat is not injected into the area. The fat provides instant lift and noticeable results right away.
How Long Will My Results Last?
Unlike normal dermal fillers, the fat transfer procedure does not begin to fade away after a few months. When harvested, it is important to keep as much of the fat alive as possible. This living fat can be reattached to a blood supply which will prevent the fat from dying and being reabsorbed by the body. This means that the fat can thrive in its new location forever.
There may be some swelling, redness, and bruising around the injection area, as well as a feeling on numbness. You should be able to return to work after a day or two, though strenuous activity should be avoided.
