Chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the appearance of facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Chemical peels are used on the face to reduce the depth of fine lines and wrinkles caused from factors such as sun damage and smoking.
Peels are effective at evening out the skin’s imperfections and helping to fade brown spots. They can also be used on the face and back to assist clearing acne and blemishes.
These skin treatments loosen dead cells from the skin’s surface, providing a smoother texture and glow. We offer light to superficial-depth chemical peels; however, the deeper, more advanced peels are performed by Dr. Balikian and may require an anesthetic.
Dr. Balikian performs 25% trichloroacetic acid peels (TCA) on the neck and chest, 35%TCA peels most often on the face, as well as 88% phenol peels for trouble areas around the eyes and mouth.

The Peel Process
At the start of a chemical peel treatment session, the patient’s skin is cleansed. Following this, the chemicals are carefully applied to the skin with a brush or other tool. They slowly penetrate into the skin layers to the desired depth and removes cells from the skin layer. After this, the peel is removed and the skin is soothed.
For gentle and medium peels, patients may return for regular peel sessions. For deeper peels, only a single session is typically required to achieve desired results. The stronger the peel, the longer the results will last.
I had a vampire facial done with JoAnn at Dr. Balikian’s office about 5 months ago. […] I also got the perfect peel a month after my vampire facial, I feel like the peel definitely intensified the process. After the peel, I felt like my skin was visibly smoother, tighter, and plumper. The before and after were amazing. I can’t wait for my appointment in June for my Botox. I highly recommend the team at Dr. Balikian’s. The whole staff is amazing.”

After a Chemical Peel
Once a superficial chemical peel is complete, the patient is free to return to their daily schedule. In the case of deeper peels, downtime will be required.
The skin will gradually peel away, revealing fresh new skin cells. It will be important to avoid exposure to heavy sunlight and to not wear makeup for a time, since the skin will be very sensitive. The patient will need to wear adequate sunscreen.
