Facial volume does not disappear evenly as we age. Changes in the cheeks, temples and other areas of the face can alter proportions, create new shadows and make surrounding features look different.
That is why our aesthetic providers do not evaluate a cheek, chin or hollow in isolation. They look at the relationships between features and determine where restoring support can make the face look more balanced.
VOLUMA® XC is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler in the JUVÉDERM® collection. Its formulation provides volume and structural support in areas where facial contours have changed or additional definition is desired.
Hyaluronic acid occurs naturally in the body, but VOLUMA is not simply about putting HA wherever volume has been lost. Product selection, placement and amount are determined by your anatomy and what we are trying to accomplish.
VOLUMA is FDA approved for specific uses involving the cheeks, chin and temples.
The important part is how these areas work together. A change in one part of the face can influence how we perceive several others.
This is where the approach our aesthetic providers use becomes particularly important.
Someone may come in concerned about a specific fold, hollow or shadow, but that does not necessarily mean the best treatment is to put filler directly into it. Sometimes what you see is being influenced by volume or structural changes somewhere nearby.

Cheek volume plays an important role in the shape and proportions of the midface. As that volume changes, the cheek can appear flatter and transitions between the cheek, lower eyelid and lower face can become more noticeable.
VOLUMA can restore support strategically within the cheek rather than simply making the cheek larger. Placement depends on your existing anatomy and the contour we are trying to restore or enhance.
Chin enhancement is another example of why filler should be planned in relation to the rest of the face. Projection of the chin influences the profile and the perceived balance between the nose, lips, jawline and lower face.
VOLUMA allows our aesthetic providers to add projection and refine chin contours without surgery in appropriately selected patients. The amount and placement should complement the features already there rather than create a standardized chin shape.
A tired appearance around the eyes is not always an eyelid problem. Hollowing and shadows beneath the eyes can be influenced by the relationship between the lower eyelid and the cheek.
That is why our aesthetic providers evaluate both areas before recommending filler. For appropriately selected patients, VOLUMA may be used to restore support and create a smoother transition between the lower eyelid and cheek.
But under-eye filler is not automatically right for every patient with a hollow or shadow. Anatomy determines the treatment.

Treatment begins with a conversation about what you see and what you would like to change. Our aesthetic providers then assess your facial anatomy, proportions, movement and any previous filler treatments.
VOLUMA is placed strategically according to that plan. Because the product contains lidocaine, a local anesthetic, it is formulated with patient comfort in mind during injection.
Temporary swelling, tenderness, firmness, bruising or redness can occur following treatment. Your aesthetic provider will explain what to expect based on the areas treated.

How long does Voluma® last?
Voluma is one of the longest-lasting fillers on the market, with results typically lasting up to 2 years.
Does Voluma® hurt?
Discomfort is minimal. Voluma contains lidocaine for numbing, and we offer additional numbing cream or ice to keep you comfortable.
Will my face look overfilled?
Not when administered by an experienced injector. Our goal is always to enhance your natural features, not change how you look.
Can I combine Voluma® with other treatments?
Yes. Voluma can be combined with other fillers or neuromodulators like Botox® for a full-face rejuvenation plan.
How soon will I see results?
Results are visible immediately and continue to improve as swelling subsides over the next few days.
How many syringes will I need?
This depends on your goals and anatomy. Many first-time cheek treatments use 2 to 4 syringes in total. Chin enhancement often uses 1 to 2 syringes. Your injector will map a plan after examining your face.
What is the downtime like?
Most people return to normal activities the same day. Expect possible swelling, tenderness, or bruising for a few days. Plan important photos or events after the two-week mark.
Is Voluma reversible if I do not like it?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
How do I prepare before treatment?
Avoid alcohol, high-dose fish oil, aspirin, and NSAIDs for 24 to 48 hours if approved by your doctor. Arrive with clean skin. Tell your provider about all medications and supplements.
When can I wear makeup again?
Usually after 12 hours, once any injection points have closed. Use clean brushes and gentle products.
