Ariessence® Pure PDGF+ is a formulation containing platelet-derived growth factor, or PDGF, a signaling protein involved in the body’s natural tissue-repair processes.
Growth factors help coordinate activity between cells during tissue repair. In aesthetic care, PDGF-based products are used as part of skin-renewal protocols.
At Balikian Plastic Surgery, Ariessence is applied following microneedling or appropriate laser resurfacing. Its role is different from a dermal filler: the focus is on the skin and its response to treatment, rather than adding facial volume or changing underlying structure.
Ariessence Pure PDGF+ is produced using recombinant technology.
Instead of extracting growth factors from a patient’s blood, the manufacturer uses specially engineered yeast to produce recombinant human PDGF-BB, which is then purified into a consistent, sterile formulation.
Unlike PRP or PRF, which are prepared from a patient’s own blood, Ariessence® Pure PDGF+ is manufactured to deliver a standardized concentration of PDGF-BB. Its recombinant production process allows the manufacturer to control purity and potency from one batch to the next.
The result is a sterile, ready-to-use topical formulation with no blood draw required.
A gene is introduced into yeast DNA, enabling the yeast to produce the desired PDGF-BB protein.
The engineered yeast is cultivated in a controlled bioreactor to produce PDGF-BB.
The resulting protein undergoes purification to produce a consistent, sterile formulation.
The finished product provides a standardized concentration of recombinant human PDGF-BB, ready for use in the appropriate topical aesthetic protocol.
Why it matters: Unlike blood-derived preparations, which vary from patient to patient, recombinant production allows the manufacturer to control the concentration and consistency of the finished product.
Microneedling and laser resurfacing use different methods to create controlled changes in the skin. Both initiate a natural repair response, making the period following treatment an important part of the overall procedure.
Ariessence Pure PDGF+ is incorporated at this stage as a growth factor-based component of the treatment plan.

What is Ariessence® Pure PDGF+?
Ariessence® Pure PDGF+ is a topical cosmetic formulation containing recombinant human platelet-derived growth factor BB (PDGF-BB) and hyaluronic acid. PDGF-BB is a signaling protein involved in cellular processes associated with tissue repair. How is Pure PDGF+ different from PRP?

Ariessence contains a defined recombinant PDGF-BB formulation and does not require a blood draw. PRP contains multiple biological components, while Pure PDGF+ delivers a specific growth factor as part of a topical cosmetic formulation.
What is the difference between PRP and PRF EZ Gel?
Both begin with the patient’s blood, but their preparation and final form differ. PRP concentrates platelets in plasma. PRF preparations incorporate a fibrin-based component, while PRF EZ Gel undergoes additional processing to create a gel for selected aesthetic applications. Their composition and characteristics depend on the preparation protocol.
What does the research say about Pure PDGF+ after microneedling?
A 2025 randomized controlled trial compared topical pure PDGF with standard post-procedure care following radiofrequency microneedling. Researchers reported greater improvement in several assessed skin-quality measures at 7 and 30 days in the PDGF group. These findings are encouraging, but the study evaluated a specific treatment protocol and does not establish that every patient will experience the same results.
Does Ariessence® Pure PDGF+ reduce downtime after microneedling?
The appearance of redness and the recovery experience depend on the type and intensity of microneedling, individual skin characteristics, and aftercare. Although clinical research has reported favorable aesthetic outcomes with topical pure PDGF following radiofrequency microneedling, a predictable reduction in downtime has not been established for every treatment protocol.
Is Pure PDGF+ better than PRP, PRF, or exosomes?
There is not enough direct comparative clinical evidence to conclude that one is universally more effective. These approaches differ in composition, preparation, and intended use. Research on PRP and PRF has reported improvements in certain facial-aging measures, but results vary across studies. The appropriate choice depends on the treatment being performed and the patient’s goals.
Are exosomes the same as growth factors?
No. Exosomes are small, cell-derived vesicles that can carry proteins, lipids, and other biological materials. Growth factors such as PDGF-BB are signaling proteins. An exosome preparation can contain multiple components, whereas Ariessence contains a defined recombinant PDGF-BB formulation. Exosome products also differ in their source, processing, and composition.
Is Ariessence® Pure PDGF+ FDA-approved?
Ariessence is marketed as a topical cosmetic product and is listed with the FDA as a cosmetic. FDA cosmetic listing is not the same as FDA approval. Although other PDGF-containing products have received FDA approval for specific medical indications, those approvals do not extend to Ariessence or establish its effectiveness for cosmetic procedures.
How many treatments will I need?
Your treatment schedule depends primarily on the procedure being performed, your skin concerns, and your response to treatment. Ariessence is incorporated into an individualized plan rather than following a universal treatment schedule. Your provider can explain the recommended number of microneedling or laser sessions during your skin evaluation.
