Have you been thinking about getting a brow lift? As we age, the eyebrows tend to sag and start pushing down our upper eyelid skin. This can give a tired look to the eyes, as well as an angry or scowled look to the face. Although Botox can often soften this scowl, and help lift the brows up, some patients need surgical correction to lift the brows higher. For years, brow lifts, also known as forehead lifts, were being performed too aggressively and patients were getting a surprised or overdone look. Today, brow lifts are done more conservatively and are focused on lifting the outer edges of the brows. Double-board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Balikian offers some of the best brow lift results Temecula has to offer.

Brow Lift Options

Options for a brow lift include an endoscopic brow lift, a temporal brow lift, a trichophytic brow lift, a mid-forehead brow lift and a direct brow lift. Dr. Balikian is very conservative with his brow lifts and will go over which options he thinks will work best for you after performing a thorough examination. He will always give an honest assessment and individualize his surgical recommendation for you.

The Different Types of Brow Lifts

  • Endoscopic Brow Lift: The most popular brow lift procedure, endoscopic brow lift involves using a small endoscope to dissect the forehead tissue. A camera is attached to the endoscope so that the surgeon can maneuver around nerves in the vicinity of the eyebrows safely without damaging them. The benefits of an endoscopic brow lift include less pain, no scalp numbness, and a shorter recovery time.
  • Temporal Brow Lift: The temporal brow lift technique is aimed at reversing upper eyelid heaviness as a result of aging. As people grow older, their lateral brows start descending and this can be set right by temporal brow lifts in combination with an upper blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery). If you’d like to try a brow lift technique that’s arguably the least risky and less extensive compared to other brow lift techniques, this is the technique to choose. However, the results aren’t as dramatic as those of more invasive procedures.
  • Trichophytic Brow Lift: In this technique, the surgeon makes an incision behind the hairline and it is made in such a way that when hair grows, it grows through it.

Browlift vs Blepharoplasty

Heaviness of the upper lid is not always just about excess skin. Oftentimes, the heaviness of the upper eyelid skin is due in part to the heaviness of the eyebrow. For some people, there is no brow heaviness and the only procedure needed is an upper blepharoplasty. Sometimes, just a little bit of Botox under the eyebrow will give enough of a lift to the brow the augment the result of the blepharoplasty. But in some cases (around 50%) a browlift needs to be done in conjunction with a blepharoplasty to fully open the upper eyelid heaviness. In these cases, blepharoplasty alone will leave continued heaviness of the upper eyelid and some form of brow lift is necessary. Rarely, a brow lift alone will treat upper eyelid heaviness. With years of experience and expertise, Dr. Balikian will help diagnose what is causing your upper eyelid heaviness and choose the best plan for your individual goals.
