Injectable fillers are different from BOTOX® Cosmetic in that they do not work on muscle activity but work by physically plumping up the troughs of wrinkles and folds. Injectable fillers such as Restylane®, Juvéderm®, Perlane® and Artefill® are most often used to treat the folds that form from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth, the so-called marionette lines that form from the corners of the mouth going down to the chin, other wrinkles around the mouth and cheeks as well as to augment the size of the lips.
Restylane and Juvéderm are made from hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar-based product that your body makes on its own. Therefore it is very safe to use and does not require a skin test. Restylane and Juvéderm differ in thickness and Dr. Richard Balikian will discuss with you in consultation which injectable filler may best fit your needs. These products generally last approximately nine months before being resorbed by your body.
Dr. Balikian is proud to offer Artefill, the first non-resorbable injectable filler for treatment of the folds from the base of the nose to the corners of the mouth. Artefill is a combination of collagen and small round beads made of polymethylmethacralate. Artefill requires a skin test.
