Peels – Chemical peels use a chemical solution to improve and smooth the appearance of facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. Chemical peels are used on the face to reduce the depth of fine lines and wrinkles caused from factors such as sun damage and smoking. They are also effective at evening out the skin’s imperfections and helping to fade brown spots. Peels can also be used on the face and back to assist clearing acne and blemishes. Peels loosen dead cells from the skin’s surface, providing a smoother texture and glow. Our licensed estheticians offer light to superficial-depth chemical peels; however, the deeper, more advanced peels are performed by Dr. Balikian and may require an anesthetic.
Through minimally invasive techniques, facial skin and appearance can be improved by refreshing and tightening skin and removing or smoothing wrinkles, age spots and skin discoloration. Resurfacing agents including deep exfoliants, combined with glycolic or TCA peels, can be used in conjunction with fillers like collagen, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Juvéderm®, Perlane® and Artefill® to rejuvenate the skin.

Microdermabrasion – Also known as the “lunchtime peel,” microdermabrasion is highly effective for evening out skin tone and texture, reducing the appearance of acne scars and decreasing wrinkles and lines. The end result can be smoother, younger-looking skin.
Microdermabrasion utilizes a hand-held instrument that emits very fine crystals to polish the surface of the skin. It then suctions away both the uppermost layer of skin and crystals to reveal a layer of fresh, invigorated skin. There is minimal discomfort and virtually no recuperation. Microdermabrasion improves dull or uneven skin color, relieves clogged pores and blackheads, refines the appearance of fine lines and large pores and softens roughness or thickened patches of dead skin. This procedure is typically performed on the face; however, it is also effective on the back to help reduce the effects of acne. Microdermabrasion is often combined with a light chemical peel to increase the effect.
IPL – Intense pulsed light is a hair removal procedure that has become popular in recent years due to its less costly, less time-consuming process (compared to laser hair removal). IPL and laser epilation results are generally equal. IPL is also used for skin treatment in a process known as photorejuvenation. Photorejuvenation diminishes the appearance of freckles, sunspots, broken capillaries, fine lines and wrinkles.

Laser Hair Removal – If dark, course hair appears on your body in places you don’t like or expect and prevents you from wearing a high-cut bathing suit, shorts or short skirt, laser hair removal may be a solution for you. In the past, remedies for removing unwanted hair included plucking, shaving, waxing and chemical depilatories. These can be painful and messy, and all are temporary. Long-term hair removal can be accomplished with electrolysis; however, it can be a slow and uncomfortable process. Laser hair removal is a more effective treatment that removes unwanted hair faster and more reliably than other methods and is relatively comfortable. Laser hair removal can be used on the legs, face, neck, back, abdomen, bikini line, breasts, arms and underarms. The length of the sessions depends upon the size of the area being treated. Dr. Balikian uses the state-of the art Lumenis LightSheer Laser as a rapid, non-invasive treatment to get rid of unwanted hair.
Laser hair removal treats hair follicles that are in an active growth phase, so more than one treatment may be needed to disable hair follicles. It is effective in treating larger areas because it removes more than one hair at a time. Laser hair removal may cause a slight tingling sensation; however most patients tolerate it well. Topical anesthesia is available. Laser hair removal is not just for women. Many men also have this procedure done, especially on their back, to remove excess unwanted hair.
